As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve hardly published anything onto United-Underground for a couple of months now. I feel that I should explain to all of my readers and visitors why I have “lost interest” in United-Underground.
I have a lot going on right now in my life, and I just don’t have time for all the things that I used to have time for. United-Underground just wasn’t bringing in the revenue and the benefits that I was hoping for, so I moved my blogging to AppleTell, where it is my job (for which I am paid) to write articles about Apple news and that of the sort. This new job was a major factor in United-Underground’s hiatus.
I’m also now more focused on updating tumbblogr, my personal tumblelog, as it allows me to express my general findings and opinions, without being limited to a certain topic.
As for right now, I’m not entirely sure what to do with United-Underground. I’m fairly certain that I do not wish for it to continue on as a technology news blog, and right now I’m just developing my ideas for the future of the site.
Until further notice, United-Underground will remain as is. If you have something you’d like to share with me, whether it be a question, comment, or whatever, feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I’d just like to thank everyone who’s been a faithful reader and visitor to United-Underground, and would like to assure you all that it does have a future, although I’m just not quite sure what it is just yet.

Palm plans to close its retail stores in an effort to focus on fewer programs and compete more efficiently. All of Palm’s eight branded retail stores, as well as its 26 stores within Airport Wireless shops, are to close. This move may be due to increased competition from Research In Motion’s BlackBerry products. Approximately a year ago, BlackBerry dominated the enterprise market and Palm was popular among prosumers who tend buy devices in retail outlets. Since then, BlackBerry has grown even more successful at selling its handhelds at retail stores, moving onto Palm’s traditional prosumer market.

The retail stores didn’t make much sense for Palm in the first place, since the company was doing its best in other retail markets. Usually, manufacturers open their own stores when their retail distribution strategy isn’t working, but Palm has reported a string of quarterly losses and may have decided to close the stores and boost its efforts to sell through other retail outlets as a way to cut costs and increase its popularity.

Mozilla is planning to release a patch for its Firefox Web browser next week, repairing a long-standing security flaw in the software. The 2.0.0.10 update is being tested now and should be released to the public some time next week, probably after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. Mozilla is calling on the Firefox user community to test the browser during an upcoming “testday” this Friday.

The issue that is to be patched in the new update was first reported last February by a man by the name of Jesse Ruderman, and gained widespread attention earlier this month when researcher Petko Petkov pointed out that the flaw could be used to launch a cross-site scripting attack against the Firefox browser. The security flaw has to do with the fact that Firefox does not properly check files that are compressed using the .jar (Java Archive) format. Attackers could easily sneak malicious code into the compressed documents, which would then be run by the unlucky victim.
Mozilla has assured the Firefox community that this security issue will be patched with the 2.0.0.10 update next week.

Today is the Nintendo Wii’s first birthday, and the Wii is now officially one year old. According to VG Chartz, the Wii has already managed to outsell the older Xbox 360 model despite Nintendo’s continued shortages. These stats show one thing only - a lot of people (including core gamers) enjoy the Nintendo Wii for what it is: a unique system with a focus on fun.
Even with the Wii’s mass popularity, many gamers remain unconvinced and alienated by the motion-sensing aspect of the console. The Nintendo Wii was also the first home video game system to ignore the industry trend of a graphics upgrade every five years, leaving the Nintendo Wii’s current library of unfamiliar games lacking in visual appeal when compared to the more realistic looking titles found on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

Whatever your views may be, the Nintendo Wii marks the return of Nintendo as the dominate console leader, a position that Sony formerly enjoyed over the last 10 years.
